FLX Library Road Trip Guide

Choose Your Own Adventure

Adventure Begins at Your Library Logo Person riding a motorcycleThanks for Road Tripping with us this summer!  While the "official" event ended on August 31, 2024, you are always welcome to visit any of our libraries for great materials, programming, and more!

Looking for adventure? Then look no further than your library! Not sure where to begin? We put together a few itineraries below but encourage you to follow your own path too. If you're in the Finger Lakes region this summer, be sure to find yourself at the library!

Find Yourself at the Library

Storytime Tour

Libraries love early literacy and each one has their own spin on storytime. Tour storytimes around the Finger Lakes Library System.

Check out our FLX Library Road Trip Interactive Map to quickly find a library near...or far...from you!

Main Street Feat

Many of our libraries are located right along Main Street.  And for good reason--they are main attractions and community hubs!

We challenge you to visit as many libraries as you can that are located on "Main Street".

Hint-we counted more than a third of our 33 member libraries!

County Cruise Challenge

Like the name says, we challenge you to visit all the libraries in one of the counties in our service area.

Earn a special edition County Cruise Challenge Mini-Sticker.  Collect all 5!

Reading Road Trip

The FLX region has been the subject of many a good book and the place many authors call home.  While you're visiting our libraries, be sure to check out their local history and local authors sections.

A great book title resource is The History Center in Tompkins County

Maybe your travels will inspire you to pen the next great work and you'll be in our libraries!

One Card, Many Libraries

Do you live in Cayuga, Cortland, Seneca, Tioga or Tompkins County in New York? You are eligible to receive a library card that can be used at any one of our 33 member libraries.

And as always, you can return your materials at any of these libraries and they will return them to the owning libraries.

Having fun isn't hard when you have a library card!

Follow That Van!

Ever wonder how library materials find their way to you? Our delivery drivers are on the road rain or shine.  (In 2022 over 165,000 items traveled via delivery.)  This fun challenge has you follow the routes (some or all) our vans take 5 days a week.

Library Bingo and Puzzles

Did you know that you can borrow books and other materials from any of our 33 member libraries with your FLLS Library Card? Keep track of where your books come from with this fun Interlibrary Loan Bingo Card.

We've also added another Bingo card that includes fun facts about the libraries where your books come from as well as another library trivia puzzle.  You can "visit" our libraries' websites to find some of the answers.  Good luck!

Library Bike Tour

Maybe two wheels is more your speed.  Be inspired by Keith Partington's The Canalway Challenge Library Tour.

Keith biked the Erie Canalway and visited libraries along the way (including a few of our members!)  You can borrow his book from the Port Byron Library.

Fun Fact:  The Ulysses Philomathic Library in Trumansburg has a Bike Bookmobile!

This project is administered by the South Central Regional Library Council.
