Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Justice, and Accessibility (DEIJA): Assessments

Overview

Starting DEIJA work can seem daunting, especially if you're new to it. Assessing your current status can help you identify where to begin, track your progress, and determine how to make your workplace more equitable, inclusive, and just.

Here, you will find links to some of the assessment tools available. A few of the tools can be used personally, i.e., for your individual goals. Most are designed for libraries and other institutions to work through at the organizational level. What works well for one organization might not be the most effective option for another, so you may want to investigate a few different instruments.

Note that there are assessment tools developed specifically for libraries, e.g., the New York State Library's DEI Toolkit evaluation section, or the DEI Assessment for Library Systems (DEIALS), adapted by SCRLC from the DEI instrument created by Dr. Kawanna Bright and Nikhat J. Ghouse.

Although the work is challenging, the important thing is to begin. Here is a selected list of assessment tools to help you get started.

This project is administered by the South Central Regional Library Council.
