Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Justice, and Accessibility (DEIJA): Organizations

The American Civic Association is a nonprofit organization that is committed to helping immigrants and refugees start a new life in our community while preserving their ethnic and cultural diversity.

Focuses on youth through after-school and summer programs, tutoring/mentoring, technology classes, and workforce development. In addition, they provide family support, food, clothing, housing and utility bill assistance, as well as comprehensive referral services to other community agencies and private industries.

The Arc promotes and protects the human rights of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and actively supports their full inclusion and participation in the community throughout their lifetimes.

As a non-profit, community-based organization we work to ensure that everyone, regardless of disability, has the power to make life choices and achieve their dreams. Navigating the world of disability services can often be confusing and overwhelming for many families. Whether you have a simple question or have no idea where to start, we’re here to help. As a designated non-residential Independent Living Center, we are organized and directed by people with disabilities. Many of our services are available to people of all ages who have all types of disabilities.

Originally established to serve as a community resource for the African-American community, the Center has a rich history as a community and consumer-focused nonprofit, providing much needed services and supports for individuals and families in Auburn for over 90 years. Today, the agency’s broad range of programs welcome everyone in the community and includes after school programs for youth in grades K-12, senior programming for adults ages 55 and older, facilitated health enrollment from Fidelis Care, and community wide activities for all ages.

Our vision is to be an innovative leader in the provision of person centered services and supports, primarily for those individuals of all ages with special needs and their families through an array of quality programs and services.

HTCJP was originally created to serve as a coalition of social justice-minded groups and individuals operating in Auburn and Cayuga County.

The museum focuses on the history of John W. Jones, a freedom seeker who worked as a conductor on the Underground Railroad and became one of the wealthiest Black men in upstate New York.
