Staff Guide: 2024 FLX Library Road Trip: How It Works

Everything you need to get the show on the road!

The Plan

First things first:  A huge thank you for making this possible!  We know summer is a busy time and we want to make this as easy as pie.  This page gives a quick overview of your library's role and what your staff will be doing.

At a minimum your library agrees to:

  • Update library address, hours, and phone number across all platforms.
  • Be able to answer basic participant questions about the FLX Library Road Trip.
  • Hand out maps and stamp maps.
  • Keep a tally of how many people visit your library for the FLX Library Road Trip.
  • Hand out souvenirs when participants reach a milestone stop.
  • Help promote the FLX Road Trip throughout the summer.

Step One: Get Ready

1. Get everyone on board. Make sure staff know what it is and what to do.

     Participation Requirements

  • Hand out maps/stamp maps
  • Give out souvenirs & fill out souvenir form for totes and t-shirts
  • Keep stats on number of participants
  • Answer questions about the Road Trip
  • Make sure your library's hours and website are current

2. Build buzz for the FLX Road Trip.  Help promote the event on your website, socials, bulletin boards, etc.

3. Make peace with the fact this won't be perfect.  There will be glitches.  Do the best you can and move forward.

    Share feedback with FLLS.

Step 2: Get Set

Your FLX Library Road Trip Starter Kit sets you up for success!

Here's what is included:

  • Orange Folder with: Guidebook; Souvenir Sheet, Stats Tracker Sheet,
  • Maps
  • Promotional Posters to post in-house or at partner organizations
  • Souvenir No. 1: "Find Yourself at the Library" 3" sticker (5th Stop)
  • County Cruise Challenge Stickers (for your county)
  • Souvenir No. 2: "I Brake for FLLS Libraries" Car Magnet (10th Stop)

If you need more supplies, contact Heidi sooner rather than later.

Step 3: Go!

Welcome Library Road Trippers.  Be ready to answer questions about your library, hand out maps, stamp maps, and maybe even give away a souvenir or two.

Encourage people to participate in the Library Road Trip.

Keep stats.  We'd like to know how many folks are participating.

Step 4: Rinse and Repeat

The Road Trip runs from July 1 through August 31, 2024.  Be sure to keep promoting the event throughout the summer. If you need more supplies contact Heidi.

This project is administered by the South Central Regional Library Council.
